Renzullo Food Market is a family owned delicatessen and has been a community staple since 1964. I was fortunate enough to be tasked with designing their debut coffee packaging as well as some branding materials such as posters and a menu for their coffee.
When it came to designing the coffee packaging my initial thoughts were leaning towards a full bag design as oppose to a label, but due to it being a limited run I had to adjust my thinking. After speaking with the supplier the client and myself decided on a white bag, due to it being more unique in the marketplace and the fact it was clean and stood out. I wanted to create a contrast with the bag by using the Renzullo red, which is the primary brand colour. After narrowing it down from the initial 10 designs, it was decided that the minimal feel with plenty of negative space was a perfect way to launch the coffee.
A main part of Renzullo Food Market's business in recent years is their premium Italian coffee bar inside the store. The client wanted a menu that both reflected the brand and the new launch of their very own Renzullo Espresso. I wanted to incorporate an image that enticed customers without having it overpower the menu. I did this by offsetting the image by designating the larger area for the menu itself. Finding the balance between legibility and negative space was once again of crucial importance and I feel it was well executed.
Another product Renzullo Food Market offers is a selection of premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil's from Tuscany and Sicily. It is poured into the bottle in front of the customer, which creates a unique spectacle. I designed two spec sheets for the respective oils, using graphics of the map of Italy to clearly state the origin. Using green to highlight the region on the white graphic, with the red background behind, utilizing the colours of the Italian flag.
I was tasked with designing posters for the Renzullo Gelato which is served in the summer months. Contrary to everything else I have designed prior, the client requested a more playful, fun design. I came up with 2 colour schemes as well as 2 layouts, which were all used throughout the storefront inside and outside.
I played with the typography, stacking the words like scoops of ice cream by positioning the letter "g" perfectly interlocking with the letters "a" and "t" on the word below it.
